Soccer Farm is an inspiring autobiography novel that truly captures the essence of our beloved rainbow nation. It evokes a multitude of emotions that takes readers on a rollercoaster. From bursts of laughter and light moments to the heartbreaking scenes of the effects of apartheid; it captures every single one perfectly.

The novel is inspiring, raw and true. It highlights our dark past and our experiences of apartheid but it promises the future of unity. It is a book every South African should read. The friendship of Lourens and Bareng is full of love and understanding, this indicates to all South Africans that love is not defined by ethnicity and race.

Soccer farm is a reminder that humans cause a divide amongst each other based on worldly factors such as the colour of our skin or the language we use to communicate. And yet, when we push those aside and really look at each other, we see that we are not so different.

The book is remarkable. It is everything a good novel needs to be: Captivating, bingeworthy, and bits of humour. It does not hide the suffering but it certainly brings hope that has always been buried within us.

    “Friendship is colourblind”.
