Description

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to be part of something huge? Something so big it can be seen from the sky? Every year along South Africa’s coastline, billions of tiny sardines come together in one of nature’s most incredible events: the sardine run. Each fish is small on its own, but together, they create a powerful, moving force that supports an entire ocean of life. What I love most about the sardine run isn’t just the action or the drama… it’s what it teaches us!

These little fish remind us that there is strength in sticking together. When things get tough, they don’t swim alone. They move as one, helping protect each other and increasing their chances of survival. It’s a powerful reminder that we are also stronger when we support our friends, family, and community. The sardine run also shows us courage. Imagine setting off on a long journey, knowing there will be challenges along the way.

The sardines don’t stop. They keep going, following the path they need to take. In our own lives, we might face obstacles that feel scary or uncertain, but like the sardines, we can keep moving forward, one step (or swim!) at a time. And even though sardines are small, they play a huge role in the ocean. They feed sharks, dolphins, birds, and more, helping to keep the whole ecosystem alive and balanced. It’s a wonderful reminder that no matter how small you feel, you can make a big difference in the world around you!

So as you dive into this issue of Supernova, I hope you feel inspired by the sardine run and what it represents.

Stay curious. Stay brave. And remember, just like those shimmering shoals in the sea, you are part of something bigger, and you matter more than you know!
