The Preflight Books Lift-off service is a subscription plan that gives our authors access to sales from our website and physical shop, marketing material and an author page set-up

How it works

  • Sign up to a monthly subscription
  • Subscribers will get a statement of sales for each batch of stock received.
  • Subscribers will be sent an onboarding kit and questionnaire
  • Premium subscribers will have an author web page built  and will be shown how to use the blog and marketing kit
  • Premium subscribers will be given access to the Preflight Books portal, from where you can create your own blog posts
  • You will provide us with printed books or we can arrange to have books printed

Please read the below terms and conditions. By subscribing, you agree and are governed by these.

Preflight Premium Lift-off Service Subscription  

  • Your Preflight Lift-off Service Subscription will begin once you have signed up and will continue until terminated.  
  • Your monthly deduction of R595 will cover the cost of:  
  • An author webpage with blog capability. Theauthor is in charge of their own content but will be checked byPreflight Books. 
  • Listing on the online BK Shop with a link directly to the author page and our physical BK Shop in Hatfield, Pretoria.
  • SEO optimisation of products. This ensures that your product is easily searchable. 
  • Storage of books on BK premises, with at least 10 copies and must be replenish when stock is at 5 books. 
  • Fulfilment of orders on your behalf. 
  • Marketing Kit: three social media templates, advanced information sheet, authorwebpage short link,mock-upof book(s), basic marketing training in the form of best practices document.  
  • 20%off all post-production services such as photoshoots. 
  • Introductory blog and social media posts. 
  • The author’s books are kept on consignment of 30% of each book sale.  

 

Preflight Lite Lift-off Service Subscription  

  • Your Preflight Lift-off Service Subscription will begin once you have signed up and will continue until terminated.  
  • The start-up cost is R199 and a monthly deduction thereafter of R199 will cover the cost of: 
  • Listing on the online and physical BK Shop in Hatfield, Pretoria. 
  • SEO optimisation of products. This ensures that your product is easily searchable. 
  • Storage of books on BK premises, with at east 10 copies and must be replenish when stock is at 5 books. 
  • Fulfilment of orders on your behalf.
  • The author’s books are kept on consignment of 30% of each book sale.  

The Terms of Use govern how you shall receive and use your exclusive author access.  

1. Subscribe and Unsubscribe  

  • Subscribe on the Lift-off Service” page on the shop.bkpublishing.co.za website. Select the subscription plan, click the add to order button and you will be taken to the checkout form, where you will fill out your details to create an account and pay to begin your author subscription.  
  • To unsubscribe, simply log onto your account on the shop.bkpublishing.co.za website to unsubscribe. Follow the instructions for cancellation. You can cancel your Preflight subscription after a minimum of 4 months.  
  • Subscribers will need to cancel one month in advance. Once their subscription is cancelled, all author benefits will cease to exist. In essence, the author page and selling on the authors behalf will be discontinued. 
  • Pricing of the subscription plan may be subject to change in the future,  but subscribers will be notified 30 days prior to the change.  

2.What is needed from the author for Premium Lift-off Service

  • Author bios must be provided and will be edited if necessary. 
  • A professional author photo must be provided for the author page and other marketing material.  
  • Links to all social media pages and existing websites must be provided to use them in the author page. 
  • The author must have at least 10 books to qualify as a candidate.  
  • If the books were not produced by Preflight Books: the blurbs, JPG of the covers, books’ audience, marketing pitch for books, what need does book fulfil (metadata) must be provided in the form of an email to mail@bkpublishing.co.za 

 3.Responsibility of the author 

  • It is the author’s responsibility to ensure that their author page is always up-to-date.  
  • It is the author’s responsibility to check that all the links pertaining to their work is functional and that their information is correct. 
  • It is the author’s responsible to do regular marketing on their own social media for their books. 
  • It is the author’s responsibility to create your own blog posts that will feature on your author page.  
  • Payment to the author for book sales will occur every 3 months. This includes a statement of sales to help keep record.  
  • The author must invoice Preflight Books for books sold – the template will be provided once subscription is started. 
  • The author must be aware that they cannot keep book sales in lieu of their subscription fee 
  • Sales can only be generated through the shop.bkpublishing.co.za website and not any personal websites or any other third-party websites 

4.Billing and cancellation  

  • To use the Preflight Lift-off Subscription, you must provide a valid Payment Method. You authorise us to charge the Payment Method you have provided to us when you subscribed.  
  • You remain responsible for any uncollected amounts. If a payment is not successfully settled, due to expiration, insufficient funds, or otherwise, and you do not cancel your account, we may suspend your access to the subscription until we have successfully charged a valid Payment Method.  
  • The subscription fee for the Preflight Lift-off Subscription plan will be charged to your Payment Method with which you subscribed with. If you update your Payment method, you authorise us to continue to charge the applicable Payment Method.  
  • You can cancel your subscription plan at any time but will only come into effect after one month, just log into your account and select cancel.  
  • To the extent permitted by the applicable law, payments are non-refundable and we do not provide refunds or credits for any partial subscription periods or unused marketing content.  
  • If your subscription bounces and not renewed or cancelled, after 2 months we will courier the remainder of your books to you.

5.Passwords and Account Access 

  • The author who created the Preflight Lift-off account and whose Payment Method is charged (the “Account Owner”) is responsible for any activity that occurs through the Preflight Lift-off account. To maintain control over the account and to prevent anyone from accessing your author page and blog content, the Account Owner should maintain control over the device that is used to access the content and not reveal the password or details of the Payment Method associated with the account to anyone. You are responsible for updating and maintaining the accuracy of the information you provide to us relating to your account. We can terminate your account or place your account on hold in order to protect you, Preflight Books or our partners from identity theft or other fraudulent activity.   
  • Upon creating your account, you will receive a generated password which can be changed to your liking after you have first logged in.  

6.Warranties and Limitations on Liability 

  • Preflight Books will endeavour to do all in their power to fulfil the shipment of books to customers within South Africa. In the case of theft and hijacking while in transit, the purchase will either be resent or credited and refunded within 5-7 working days.     
  • However, online content such as the author page may not be uninterrupted or error-free. Preflight Books, in such a circumstance, will endeavour to correct these errors as soon as possible 
  • You waive all special, indirect, and consequential damages against us. These terms will not limit any non-waivable warranties or consumer protection rights that you may be entitled to under the mandatory laws of South Africa.   

7.Customer support 

  • To find out more information about our services and its features or if you need assistance with your account, please contact Preflight Books at mail@bkpublishing.co.za or on WhatsApp at 012 342 5347. In the event of any conflict between these Terms of Use and information provided by Customer Support or other portions of our website, these Terms of Use will control.  

8.Terms of use 

  • Preflight Books may, from time to time, change these Terms of Use. We will notify you at least 30 days before such changes apply to you.  

9.Communications  

  • Preflight Books will send you information relating to your account (e.g. payment authorizations, invoices, changes in password or Payment Method, confirmation messages, notices) in electronic form only, for example via emails to your email address provided during sign-up.  
  • You remain responsible for updating your contact details.  

10.Privacy Policy 

Collection of information we receive and store about you such as:  

  • The information you provide to us which includes:  
  • Your name, email address, physical address, phone number, your social media accounts and payment method. We collect this information in a number of ways, including when you enter it while using our service, interact with our customer service, or participate in marketing promotions and provide information to us about your books.  

Your Information and Rights  

  • You can request access to your personal information, or correct or update out-of-date or inaccurate personal information we hold about you. You may also request that we delete personal information that we hold about you.  
  • When you visit the “Account” page of our website, you have the ability to access and update a broad range of information about your account, including your contact information and your Preflight Books payment information. You must be signed in to access the “Account” section.   
  • We respond to all requests we receive from individuals wishing to exercise their data protection rights in accordance with applicable data protection laws.  
  • We may reject requests that are unreasonable or not required by law, including those that would be extremely impractical, could require disproportionate technical effort, or could expose us to operational risks. We may retain information as required or permitted by applicable laws and regulations, including to honour your choices, for our checkout or records purposes and to fulfil the purposes described in this Privacy Statement. We take reasonable measures to destroy or de-identify personal information in a secure manner when it is no longer required.  

11.Data  Security

  • We use reasonable administrative, logical, physical, and managerial measures to safeguard your personal information against loss, theft and unauthorized access, use and modification. These measures are designed to provide a level of security appropriate to the risks of processing your personal information.
